SAILING AROUND THE WORLD ON A SAILBOAT

I bought SV Delos in May of 2008. At the time I had no intentions of documenting our life with YouTube Sailing Videos, but as sometimes happens one thing lead to another and here we are 45 countries, 70,000+ ocean miles, and over 200 YouTube Sailing Videos later. The decision to sell everything, buy a sailboat, and set off on a grand adventure was a defining point in my life.

My brother Brady (aka Senor Brady) joined Delos in Mexico for a month long sail to Tahiti. He decided to take all his savings, leave university behind and give 110% to the sailing life. Now 8 years later he is still aboard and has become my best friend. We’ve had more brotherly experiences together than any two man-boys have a right to.

I met the love of my life Karin (aka my Swedish Princess) on the other side of the Pacific in New Zealand, and asked her to go sailing for the weekend. Now 4 oceans and many hard sea miles later she has become an accomplished sailor and my wife! Alex Blue, joined Delos in South Africa and after Brady used some love potion to spark her interest, she has become a full time part of our floating family and production team! Together the 4 of us form the core of The Delos Crew.

A few years into the trip In Australia the cruising kitty ran dry, and we stopped sailing to work for a year. A fellow cruiser gave us the idea to document our travels with Youtube Sailing Videos so we purchased a small camcorder and started making our own homemade sailing movies about our experience. To date we’ve published over 200 videos on our scuba Diving and sailing adventures around this magnificent planet. The videos are all FREE. We’ve poured our heart and soul into them, and hope you enjoy watching as much as we did making them!

Sailing Vessel Delos…tell us about the boat.

I remember the first time I walked down the dock and saw Delos sitting there. She just screamed out “Take me across an ocean!” . I was living and working in Seattle at the time and had been shopping for a solid, blue water cruising boat for over a year. I went to a bunch of boat shows drooling over everything, and even considered looking at these GraysOnline Aluminium Boats so I could say that I owned a boat of my very own, but then heard
about the Amel boats from a cruising seminar. At that time there was only one Amel Super Maramu for sale on the West coast of the US. It just happened to be in Bellingham, a few hours drive north of Seattle almost on the Canadian border so I headed up to take a look.

When and where did you buy her?

They say that when you find your boat you know it, and that’s exactly what it was like. I put in an offer and the sale closed a few months later in June of 2008. It should be noted at this time the notion of “starting a travel blog” would have been met with blank stares and incredulity.

“They say that when you find your boat you know it, and that’s exactly what it was like.”

Did you name her yourself? And if so what does the name mean?

Delos was named by the previous owner and the history goes a little something like this. And I’m paraphrasing here to keep it really short:

Zeus was a bit of a player and was fooling around with Leto. In fact Zeus got her pregnant. Hera found out and banished Leto. This was a problem because apparently the children of gods can’t be born in the human domain. Zeus called in a favor from his bro Poseidon who used his trident to create a magical island named Delos, which was someplace between heaven and earth. Artemis and Apollo were then safely born on the Island of Delos.

I thought it was a pretty sweet story so kept the name!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

How did this epic trip around the world start?

Strangely with a trip to the library on a sunny Seattle Day. I was browsing the shelves and saw a book with a bright blue ocean on the cover. I can’t remember the exact title but it was something like “How to cross an ocean on your own boat.” What?!??! Was that even possible to do these days? I’d been sailing small boats around the lakes of Seattle for a few years but the thought of crossing an ocean blew me away. It then occurred to me that this was the ultimate way to travel! A way to mix adventure and self sufficiency with the art of sailing. And so the dream was born.

What were your initial plans?

The initial plan was to sail to New Zealand. I spent the next 4 years dreaming, saving, planning, and selling all my worldly possessions. Delos departed Seattle in August of 2009 and we arrived in New Zealand in October of 2010. There was no way I could stop now so another plan was born to sail to Australia via Fiji, Vanuatu, and the Solomon’s. Most of my savings had been spent by this time so we stretched the budget razor thin to make it happen.

Tilbury Docks | Journey of Experience

Another day begins! It is 7:45am. Thursday morning on the bridge and already the coffee machine is hung up batch processing steamed milk and thick espresso into a series of mugs. One-by-one a series of caffeinated beverages emerge, the mugs’ owners duly accepting it before weaving around the table. We begin to plan today’s maintenance.

All over the ship, the departments have come together by 8am, each one ready for their morning meetings.

It is another day in Tilbury. Apparently, we are in lay-up, but those of us that are left seem to be just as busy as before! The routine operations of the ship continue and, as the clock still ticks, we continue our working habits that preserve the ship.

That said, one can’t pretend all is exactly the same as a few months ago. There is a notable absence of people, namely a thousand missing passengers, and nearly 500 repatriated crew. Just 48 of us remain. Rather than a sense of loneliness, we have stronger sense of community than ever before. We are no different to any household in the UK, where strength in common adversity has brought us together.

Over the past few weeks, in addition to Saga Sapphire, our number of neighbours has grown, crowding in this tiny expanse of Essex water with ever more cruise ships.

Indeed, our echo sounder shows less water beneath our keel, as the additional tonnage inside the locks has displaced a greater mass of water. These new ships have their tribulations of repatriations; getting flights home for their crew members has proven incredibly difficult and the same applies for all other cruise companies at this time. Thankfully, at Saga, we sent our loyal crew home safely two months ago.

Similarly, in the past two months we have all remained healthy and well. Our nurse Sydney works to no end monitoring and maintaining the health of the crew. You see him every morning, about with his clipboard and blood oximeter and thermometer, darting from galley to office, control room to workstation.

Meanwhile, we continue to think about the future. We are longing for our passengers to return to us and despite these ongoing trials, I wholly believe our best days yet lie ahead.

Recently, we marked VE day with two minutes silence in the morning, a blast of our horn in the afternoon, and pointing our searchlights skyward after sunset. It is a reminder to the ship, as much to the nation, how trying times have been before. But we also remember how trying times have always come to pass.

Now, it is a Thursday evening. The only port movement is a ro-ro ferry, who hums her way from a quiet corner of the docks down a corridor of dormant liners. Crowds of crew members on the open decks, from their cabin and office windows, mutedly observe her outward passage. We all wish to return to sailing.

All of us here on the Saga cruise ships are healthy, in good spirits, and itching to get back to sea. Whenever that may be, we hope to see you there and we can all enjoy the good times that lie ahead together.

Stay safe and healthy,

WHY SELL YOUR BOAT BEFORE WINTER

Wholesaling your boat is by far the fastest, easiest way to get a boat off of your hands for the most competitive price - especially when it is done through Off the Hook Yacht Sales. Whether you have your eye on a new boat or just don't want your boat sitting all winter long, we can help you out! There are so many benefits of selling your boat before Winter. Spring commissioning, depreciation, the unknown future market, and MASSIVE carrying costs are just a few examples of why it may make sense to sell your boat now vs waiting.

Additionally, there is nothing more thrilling than to go boat shopping in the Winter with friends and family.  While carrying your boat until Spring may seem like a good idea, it is worth it to have a brief conversation with us about what we can offer you today.  You may be surprised!

ACCRUED WINTER EXPENSES

There are so many reasons to wholesale your boat now, but one of the main reasons we see people wholesaling during this season is to avoid the Winterization costs. You are paying for haul-outs, shrink wrap, labor, storage, service work, spring commissioning - the list goes on and on and on!  If you decide to wholesale your boat now, you will avoid ALL of these expenses and get to keep cash in your pocket for the holiday season.  What is your cash worth being tied up in a depreciating asset all winter long?  If you see your dream boat pop up at an incredible price, are you ready to be a two boat owner?  The best deals come in the winter time.

Holding on to your boat until Spring time in hope of a "hotter" boat market is a mistake many boat owners make. Your boat value is as high as it will ever be at this exact moment, and by springtime, a model year later, expect to have offers 5-15% less than what you could get today.

DEPRECIATION OF YOUR VESSEL

All boat owners have heard the phrase about how a boat loses value the moment it leaves the lot. Well, this applies just as well to any vessel you own leading into the new year. As soon as January 1, 2021 rolls around, your boat is now identified as a year older, and retail book values will reflect this change. It is also reflected in the attitudes of any potential buyers and offers will be lower come Spring.

Holding onto a boat until Spring in hopes that a "hotter" boat market will bring better offers is a mistake many boat owners make. Your boat value is as high as it will ever be at this exact moment, and by springtime, expect to have offers at least 5-15% less. This is why wholesaling is a great option heading into winter. Though a wholesale may seem low upfront, after factoring in Winter expenses and depreciation, you are looking at spring retail offers.

CARRYING COSTS

The expenses incurred by the ownership of your vessel during the Winter months can cost thousands of dollars. In addition to the winterization and storage costs, there can be loan payments, taxes, insurance, and miscellaneous maintenance costs that could all be avoided if you were to wholesale your vessel before winter.  After we buy your boat, regardless of what happens to it, that is now on us, not you!

UNKNOWN FUTURE FOR USED BOAT MARKET

While the last seven months the boat market has been good, even during a pandemic, there are so many unknowns as to when the market will slow down, or even crash.  Make hay while the sun shines!  Get top dollar now, and then hold out, because we all know that deals are coming.  Too many boats were sold for that not to be the case.  Soon the market will be flooded, demand will slow down, production will go back up, and you will be very happy you are sitting on cash and not a boat that is rapidly depreciating every day!

DO IT YOURSELF MINDSET

Selling your boat by yourself is not as easy as it looks. It takes a lot of time and effort which means the boat you had your eye on might get sold before you can even put an offer on it.

Let’s say you decide to sell your boat through CraigsList or Facebook Marketplace. This may seem like a good idea at first, but it may take weeks or even months for someone to show interest in your vessel. On top of expenses adding up during this time, the boat of your choice could also pass you by while you wait for a prospective buyer to message you. If you are selling your boat to upgrade, it is likely that you already have a boat or two in mind that you have your eyes on (ours is the Nor-Tech 450 Sport). If you are unable to get your current boat off of your hands quickly, it is likely that the boat you are looking at will sell before you can make an offer on it. By wholesaling, you are able to get your vessel off of your hands quickly and easily, making it very unlikely that the boat of your dreams will sell before you can get your hands on it.

QUICK HASSLE-FREE TRANSACTION

Our trusted team will help you through the entire selling and buying process. Here at Off the Hook Yacht Sales, we are constantly working with clients looking to upgrade or downsize the size and style of their boat. Our team works effectively and efficiently so you can wholesale your boat for the most competitive price in the quickest amount of time. By the time you contact Off the Hook Yacht Sales, we are typically able to make an offer, close, and inspect within 3-5 days! We aim to offer 80%* of retail on all makes/models of powerboats in good condition and year 2002 or newer. Wholesaling your boat today guarantees cash in your pocket and a stress-free transaction. We handle all paperwork and transportation.

Idiot’s guide to buying a second hand boat

For a tenth of that you can get a decent yacht that will serve you well for many years and bring you all the joy you would get from a factory-fresh one. Reference

Generally speaking the less you spend the more effort you will need to get it seaworthy and comfortable.

Over this article we will look into all the aspects you need to consider when you go looking to buy a secondhand boat.

New-build boats aren’t all they’re cracked up to be either. Like a decent pair of leather shoes they will often need wearing in, and that’s not always fun.

Getting a used sailboat vs a new

A common myth is that a new yacht will be trouble-free. The fact is that sailboats are incredibly complex machines and not all new-build boats are perfect.

At least two major boatbuilding companies have been hit with scandals in the last few years where the vessels sank just weeks after delivery to the owner. Thankfully no-one died but one of those companies came close to bankruptcy.

We will touch on getting a surveyor later but if you are insistent on buying new, you will still need to get one to look over a new-build boat before delivery.

Their job in these cases is to ensure you have a safe vessel but in the case of secondhand sailboats they can save you thousands of € by pointing out any safety issues.

A secondhand boat by comparison will be:

Much cheaper to buy

Most of its issues will be obvious from the start

Less expensive to maintain (as long as it isn’t a wooden classic!)

Cost less to insure

May be less attractive to waterborne criminals after the boat or its equipment.

There is often more satisfaction to be had in an old boat too, as you maintain and improve it by putting in personal touches to make it suit you.

After a winter’s work on the hard, getting her into the water in Spring and feeling just how sweetly she sails thanks to your work, is a moment of deep satisfaction!

Which boat is right for me?

There are almost as many types of sailboats out there as there are people looking to buy one!

cruisers sailboats that are good for big ocean crossings and others better suited to pottering about the coast between favoured seaside towns.

You won’t find a carbon fibre yacht at the price range we are looking at here, and if you do get ready for your wallet to get a lot thinner!

Osmosis

GRP

Glass reinforced plastic (GRP) is cheap enough that hundreds of thousands if not millions of boats have been built of it over the years.

It is widely regarded as low maintenance but can have an issue where water gets into the ‘sandwich’ called osmosis - think of it as a rotting process.

See a good article explaining what is osmosis.

It is difficult to fix but still easier and cheaper than replacing a rotting wooden hull timber.

Steel

Steel is a low cost material (20% less than wood), the strongest of all the common boat-building materials, but not suitable for small boats (under 30m) due to its limitation of thickness.

You may think steel is easier to maintain than GRP..

It can be if kept well protected with paint and you replace your zinc anodes every year to prevent electrolytic degradation of the hull, keel bolt or screw metal.

Essentially a current will pass between the steel hull and bronze propeller and the softest metal will degrade thanks to the current.

Electric batteries operate in just this way with a reactive metal being placed in an electrolyte (in this case salt water - a brilliant conductor) and the reactive metal ions passing from the positive terminal (the anodes, screw or keel bolts) to the negative terminal (the hull).

Aluminium

Aluminium boats are very light and fast - and as long as well maintained, at least as light as GRP and strong as steel.

The problem is maintenance: They need to be painted and anodes replaced at least every two years as aluminium reacts with salt water just like the steel/bronze/brass problem above.

Leave it ill-maintained and you won’t be forgiven with the metal dis-solving thanks to electrolytic degradation.

Aluminium hulls however are nowhere near as much of a handful as wood - the next on the list!

Wood

Wooden boats are a labour of love. If kept in brackish water (where fresh mixes with salt water such as an estuary) or fresh water they will rot. You need to replace a timber at least a metre either side of the rotten patch. Then you need to paint and treat it.  Wooden boats, while some of the most beautiful ever built, are a constant nightmare of maintenance and expense. This is why you hardly see new ones on the water today!

Mono or cat?

So how many hulls do you want?

Catamarans are much more spacious, luxurious and faster but don’t sail as close to the wind as.

Look at our article comparing these two categories in depth here: monohull vs catamaran.

WHY BUY A HATTERAS YACHT

Hatteras Yachts have long been the gold-standard manufacturer known of high-quality sport and cruising yachts known worldwide for craftsmanship, functionality, performance, and style. As the company celebrates its 60th year, a review of its history and unique approach to boat building is timely.

HOW HATTERAS YACHTS CAME TO BE

The waters near Cape Hatteras, where the cold Labrador Current meets the warm Gulf Stream, can rarely be described as calm. When Willis Slane and his design partner began envisioning a new style of fishing boat to cope with rough sea conditions, they set a new standard for how fishing yachts should be built.   Reference

With the 1960 introduction of the uniquely named Knit Wits, a 41-foot sportfishing yacht, Slane began an evolution in recreational and sport fishing boats that changed the industry. The boat came with an open-air, upper helm station that could easily convert to a comfortable family outing craft.

Also, the builder and designer employed a new material known as fiberglass that could withstand the pounding and the sea’s harsh elements far better than previous materials used.

And, powered by two 275-hp Lincoln V8 engines, the craft moved quickly and powerfully through heavy seas.

The Knit Wits, later dubbed the Hatteras 41 Convertible, quickly became the standard in the industry, and sales ballooned.  Hatteras Yachts was to lead the way in fiberglass watercraft for decades.

Innovation, Performance, Safety, Comfort, and Style

Not resting on their early successes, Hatteras Yachts grew through innovation, study, and an in-depth understanding of the sport yachting world.

Still, with the focus on maneuverability and comfortable ride even in rough seas, Hatteras yachts delivered a far smoother ride than the competitors who seemed to design their products only for speed in calm waters. When the going got tough, knowledgeable sport fishing and recreational boating connoisseurs chose to stay dry and comfortable in their Hatteras yachts.

Unlike other manufacturers, Hatteras Yachts avoided using balsa wood cores in their hulls that tended to lighten the boat's weight to enhance the speed. But this inclusion also decreased the strength.

The hulls and sides of Hatteras watercraft are made with resin-infused solid fiberglass with no “fillings” to lessen the overall weight. Hatteras hulls feature a downward angle chine with hull side “step-outs” to help reduce spray while increasing the beam above the waterline for more cabin space. Hatteras Yachts will withstand more significant impact with less damage than others experience. Effectively absorbing a collision with a hidden log or other objects at sea can be a life-saving feature.

After six decades, Hatteras Yachts is still an iconic, highly respected builder of sportfishing and motor yachts.

Unique Elements of Hatteras Motor Yachts: A Better Experience

If you are searching for a top-quality, comfortable, and seaworthy watercraft that will last, the brand Hatteras is the best place to begin. Their designs produce a more comfortable, safer, and drier ride than other yachts of similar size.

Hatteras has moved beyond the sport fishing market also to become a leader in the upscale motor yacht sector. The Panacera Series, for example, begins with the Panacera M60 model that marketers deem sleek, beautiful, and deceptively spacious.

Several new Hatteras models are equipped with a ship management control system, Hattcon. This integrated technology controls lighting, heat and A/C, video streaming, and the boat’s monitoring, all through your Apple device.  The Hatteras M75 and the M90 Panacera are equipped with stunning features like a moon roof, flying bridge, spacious relaxation zones, and elegant accommodations.

Visit or Contact Cape Yachts

Cape Yachts, a leading brokerage for high-quality new and used yachts, is headquartered in South Dartmouth, MA at the historic South Wharf Yacht Yard and serves the Cape Cod and New England Region. If you are interested in a Hatteras Sportfish or Motor Yacht, the professionals at Cape Yachts can help make that dream come true. Check out the Cape Yachts' current inventory by visiting their website. Or, make an appointment with one of the Cape Yachts professionals to discuss the possibilities.

Types of Sailboats – A Comprehensive Classification

As the name suggests, sailboats rely on the power of the wind for propulsion and use a large cloth or synthetic sails for this purpose.

Sailboats are considered to be a separate class of vessels independent of motor-powered crafts since their hydrodynamic characteristics differ.

They can vary in occupancy from single-seater crafts for competition purposes to recreational vessels spanning hundreds of metres that can host up to thirty individuals.

The most common type of sailboat on the market is the small competition variant that is used in sailing competitions around the world. Several international events intended to raise awareness about sailing allow a wide range of craft types to participate including catamarans and cruisers.

For most sailing vessels, sail plans are often drawn up before the vessel leaves port. These plans indicate sail positions for various weather conditions. Reference

In this article, we will go through the various types of sailboats and their key features.

Hull Based Classification Of Sailboats

Sailboats can be classified into three distinct types based on their primary hull design.

These include

  • monohulls,
  • catamarans, and
  • multi-hull crafts.

Traditionally, monohulls are the most common design for sailboats since they provide storage in addition to a certain level of vessel stability.

However, with the advent of sailing competitions and an increased focus on the performance and stability features of these crafts, there has been a general shift towards the more favourable catamarans and trimarans.

Monohulls are single-hulled structures, much like conventional vessels, that have a large hull beam (breadth) which provides stability while sailing. The advantage with having a single large hull is that the longer beam allows for improved onboard systems.

monohull boat

monohull

Catamarans refer to twin-hulled structures that are attached by specialized members to provide strength. The term originates from the South Indian phrase for “tied pieces of wood”, as this was the manner in which traditional boats were built on the subcontinent.

catamaran

Catamaran

The advantage of having twin-hulls is that there is an increased level of stability. In addition, if designed properly the vessel will have a much higher speed than conventional crafts owing to lower wetted-surface resistance forces.

On the other hand, extensive care must be taken in designing the vessel, else the resistive forces can exceed the values found in monohulls.

Multi-hull crafts include vessels with anywhere between three to five hulls, although the three-hull variation is the most common. Such crafts are known as trimarans and are considered to be extremely stable owing to their large beam and a lower centre of gravity.

Trimaran

Trimaran

Four and five hulled vessels are more difficult to manufacture and hence are rarely used commercially. An advanced form of the catamaran design is the SWATH version.

SWATH is an acronym for Small Waterplane Area Twin Hull, and it achieves unprecedented levels of speed owing to a considerably small waterplane area. To reduce this area, the hull has a reduced beam above the surface of the water while underwater buoyant structures ensure that the vessel has the necessary weight balance.

Common Monohull Designs

Monohulls are relatively easier to manufacture compared to multi-hull structures. Thus, there has been a wider range of innovation for this type of hull over the last thousand years.

The common classes of monohull crafts are – dinghy, cutter, sloop, catboat, ketch and schooner.

dinghy is a relatively common sailboat owing to its short overall length and ease of manoeuvring. They are used in competitions and in the port industry.

Generally, dinghies are used to transport people or small cargo to and from a larger vessel such as a cruise ship that is anchored away from the shore.

Such vessels may not be able to enter a port due to size and tonnage regulations. Hence, dinghies serve as the best mode of transporting essential goods between the port and the vessel.

Dinghy

Dinghies can have sails, such as the three-sailed variant consisting of the mainsail, jib and spinnaker. However, motor-powered dinghies are also commonly used especially as life-boats on-board ships.

Cutters are another class of sailboats that are medium-sized and generally have three sails. The main mast on which the sails are mounted is located near the stern of the ship to allow for larger sails to be used.

Cutters were commonly used in competitions as their design favours speed and agility. A different combination of the sails also allows cutters to be used for cruises and other recreational sailboats.

Read more: sailboats for sale in florida

Sloops are similar to cutters and are the most commonly found sailboats. They are the standard in sail designs, with a two-sail configuration used for added manoeuvrability.

In addition to the generic sloop sail configuration, there is also a fractionally-rigged sloop in which one of the sails lies below the top of the mast.

This design allows the crews of smaller sloops to handle the craft while improving performance. Catboats are sailboats equipped with only a single sail. They are aimed at capacity rather than speed and have the mainsail mounted on a single mast.

For increased speeds, sails can be added to the rigging such that wind force is better optimized by the vessel.

The ketch is a sailboat that has two main masts- the main mast located around the midship, and the mizzen mast at the aft. The mizzen mast is generally smaller than the main mast and serves to add speed to the craft. The word ketch is derived from the word catch, denoting the manner in which the sails “catch” the wind as they move.

Schooners are a class of sailboat that can have more than two sails supported on masts known as the main-mast and foremast. The foremast is located near the fore of the vessel and is slightly shorter than the main-mast. In variations where additional masts are added to support more sails, they are positioned such that they remain shorter than the main-mast depending on their sizes.

Keel Based Classification

The keel is the base of a vessel that provides a central backbone for the design of the entire structure. The boat keel is structurally relevant since it often has to carry the weight of the vessel.

In the case of sailboats, the keel is often what the entire craft rests on during transport by road or rail. Thus, keels need to have integral strength and be able to withstand a variety of forces.

Similarly, while sailing, the keel is the lowermost point of the vessel at which resistive forces act. As a result, many modifications are often made to the keel so that hydrodynamic features can be incorporated to reduce drag. Sailboats often sit high in the water owing to their design and shape.

Refurbishing and selling the boat in 6 steps

Refurbishing and selling the boat in 6 steps

A well-maintained boat that you can sail away with sells faster (and for a higher price) than a boat that first needs to be repaired. If you want to sell your boat , it is best to refurbish it first. In this article we share a practical step-by-step plan for getting your boat ready for sale.

Fix the boat

A 'fixer upper' is a cheap boat that is less in demand than one that is completely spiky and in order. Therefore, invest time and money to prepare the boat for sale.

Here available hunter sailboats for sale

Step 1: Major repairs
Basically, a ready-to-sell boat is one without technical defects. The advice is to start with the most important repairs:

  • Remedy leaks
  • Prepare the engine, steering wheel and rudder
  • Repair lights and other electronics

Step 2: Repair work
The following points are less necessary, but still result in a large increase in value:

  • Repaint or repair
  • Touch up rust
  • Spot repair (repair the paint locally)
  • Gelcoat repair above water ship
  • Refurbish striping

Step 3: Major cleaning
Do a major clean once. You only have to keep track of it during the sale.

  • Cleaning biels (with extra emphasis on the engine room)
  • Thorough cleaning of the inside and outside of the ship
  • Remove boating deposit and osmosis from rudder and underwater ship
  • Clean or replace upholstery and carpet
  • Clean or replace sails
  • Refurbishing and selling the boat

Step 4: engage a yacht broker (or not)
There is a lot involved in the sale of a boat. You must bring the boat to the attention of interested parties, communicate and schedule appointments with potential buyers, do the viewing and clean the boat regularly.

Repair and sell boat

Step 5: Provide good information etc.
If you decide to sell the boat yourself, you need to gather all the necessary information and list it. This will give potential buyers a good idea of what to expect when taking over your boat.

Minimum information for a good ad:

  • Professional photos
  • Realistic asking price
  • Enthusiastic summary
  • Describe the boat as completely as possible
  • Construction year
  • Dimensions
  • Air draft, creep height and headroom
  • Color of the hull and deck
  • Material
  • Rudder and steering system
  • Detailed description of the engine and electrics
  • Available navigation and electronics
  • Detailed equipment description - such as anchor, cushions, bathing ladder, etc.
  • Maintenance history
  • Number of cabins and other spaces
  • Unique Selling Points: what makes this boat unique?

Step 6: Make the presentation a party
Selling a boat should feel good for both parties. The selling party wants to be assured that his boat - of which he or she has so many beautiful memories - is in reliable hands and the buying party does not want to buy a cat in a bag.

A pleasant viewing is therefore super important!

As a seller, always be honest and do not hide anything. Make sure you have complete and clear maintenance reports, invoices and other documentation and give potential buyers the space to discover the boat for themselves. Be polite and enthusiastic and you are already 1-0 ahead.

Take advantage of the high storage capacity, making it easy to bring along everything you need for your ride. Pack along extra blankets to stay cozy on colder days, bring extra snacks for an onboard picnic, and more. Luxurious quarters below deck allow for even more refined socialization or a relaxing area to get some rest. Tiara Yachts set the stage for memorable excursions out on the water.

Sleek Design
Tiara boats stand out on the water. Their striking silhouettes perfectly pair classic design with modern needs. People will turn their heads when you pull up to the dock! Tiara yachts seem to glide effortlessly on the water's surface, almost as poetry in motion. The fabrics and fixtures on the yacht are chosen to be durable so they'll last for season after season. But they are also selected for their aesthetic value as well, working to add to the overall stunning appearance of the boat. Tiara Yachts boast an engaging and elegant design.
